Ultrasound-Guided Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection for Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex Injury: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Abstract

Background: Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries are a common cause of ulnar-sided wrist pain. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of ultrasound (US)-guided platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for patients with TFCC-related ulnar wrist pain.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 6 patients diagnosed with TFCC injuries via magnetic resonance imaging, who received PRP injections targeting key anatomical sites, including the fovea. Pain levels were assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) before and after treatment.

Results: The results showed a signifi cant reduction in pain, with VAS scores decreasing from 5.67 ± 1.37 before treatment to 0.83 ± 0.82 after treatment. Additionally, three patients experienced over 80% pain relief, and no complications were reported.

Conclusion: US-guided PRP injection is a safe and well-tolerated intervention for TFCC injuries. This study supports PRP as a potentially effective treatment, though further research is needed to assess longterm outcomes and healing capacity.
